4th of July

This will be about the last post for a few weeks. We move on Monday & our next location will have no internet.

Work has being going well. Modern day prospecting is not that different from 100 years ago. The only difference is a GPS to locate yourself & a computer in camp to print maps & communicate with the outside world. Oh, and a helicopter.

Here are some highlights from the past week:

- I’m going to be a helicopter pilot in my next life. It is really a good way to see the world. I think it is as close to being a bird as you can get. “Hey Andy, can you give me a bump” translates to “Can you fly me to another location”. - Scenery is spectacular, today was like being in the Swiss Alps, although it was pretty warm & we all got a little too much sun.
- Our cook’s cookies are the best and I enjoy my Cookie breaks on the mountain.
- When I got dropped of this morning I had a really uncomfortable feeling for a while. The pilot radioed me a few minutes after he dropped me off to say there was a Grizzly and cub 1km away. Not too close but humans also have animal instincts. I got to see it when I “bumped.”
- Last week I got charged by an adolescent caribou. He came so fast over the snow bank that I didn’t have any time to react. Fortunately he did a 90 degree turn just a few feet from me.
- The only other animals we’ve seen are moose out in the flat areas, marmots, & arctic ground squirrels.
- Getting pretty good at swinging the overloaded backpack up over the gun & field vest (that is also stuffed full)
- Walking down steep talus slopes and ridge walking/mapping is not an art I’ve mastered yet. I believe we’ll be doing a lot more of that before the summer is out.

Time for sleep…

... still sounds like you're enjoying this and pic are awesome - please can we swop places for just a few days / weeks - you can have my office in the corporate concrete block, manage staff, attend IT project meetings, and do IT architecture designs and strategy; and I'll gladly step into your shoes!

Luv Githa (in cold wet Cape Town, brrr)

PS: Glad the wildlife haven't scared you to death yet.
